J is for Jewels

Below are some analogies that can be made when studying jewels and minerals. Or these are an analogy for the following:

  1. The glory of God is like the radiance of a precious jewel.
  • Revelation 21:11Having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.
  • Revelation 4:1-11After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, …
  1. The lips of knowledge
  • Proverbs 20:15There is gold and abundance of costly stones, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
  1. An excellent wife
  • Proverbs 31:10An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.
  1. In the hands of God, we are likened to a precious jewel.
  • Isaiah 62:3You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
  • Psalm 103:2-4– Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
  • Zechariah 9:16-17– On that day the Lord their God will save them, as the flock of his people; for like the jewels of a crown they shall shine on his land. For how great is his goodness, and how great his beauty! Grain shall make the young men flourish, and new wine the young women.
  1. Those we disciple become also our hope and crown
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:19For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you?
  1. As we mine for minerals and jewels underground, so wisdom is hidden, but can be discovered as we search for it.
  • Job 28:9-19 – Miners dig the hardest rocks, dig mountains away at their base. As they tunnel through the rocks, they discover precious stones. They dig to the sources of[b] rivers and bring to light what is hidden. But where can wisdom be found?  Where can we learn to understand? Wisdom is not to be found among mortals; no one knows its true value. The depths of the oceans and seas say that wisdom is not found there. It cannot be bought with silver or gold. The finest gold and jewels cannot equal its value. It is worth more than gold, than a gold vase or finest glass. The value of wisdom is more than coral or crystal or rubies. The finest topaz and the purest gold cannot compare with the value of wisdom.

Jewels are mentioned throughout the Bible

  • During the Exodus the Israelites asked their Egytian neighbours for silver and gold jewelery. – Exodus 3:22, 11:2, 12:35
  • Gold and precious gifts were offered to God – Exodus 33:4-6, 35:22, Numbers 31:50,52
  • Moses’ ephod and the priests also had gold and stones within – Exodus 39:1-43
  • The new heavenly city also has jewels – Revelation 21:18-21
