Prayer of Jabez – 1 Chron. 4

‘The Prayer of Jabez’ holds a great key to living a life of significance and fruitfulness.  There is power in praise and prayer.  There is only a few verses written on this man Jabez.  His name means pain, yet he did not live under that name but had a vision for more and a great faith in God.

1 Chronicles 4:9-10 – Now Jabez was more honourable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.

1.  God that you would bless me.

2.  That you would enlarge my territory.

3.  That your hand would be with me.

4.  That you would keep me from evil.

He had a passion that God would do more through him.  As the Great Commission speaks about, “to go into all the world…” (Matt 28).  God desires us to think big and have a heart to see HIs kingdom expand.  God is OK with this kind of praying!  For it said God granted him what he requested!

Even if you don’t feel like you are qualified, if your past is screaming a negative message, take a leaf out of Jabez’s book and believe for greater things!

“Faith mobilizes… fear paralyses”

“I am sore wounded but not slain I will lay me down and bleed a while and then rise up to fight again” – John Drydon.

There is also a great book written on this prayer by Bruce Wilkenson.
